The latest testimony from the Supreme Court Judge of Zambia has caused quite a stir at the Zambian law and government. During the October month of 2018, the Supreme Court Judge of Zambian Supreme Court testified before the court regarding few important cases in the past. In this petition, one of the most critical testimonies given was related to Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a noted businessman, visionary and philanthropist. Dr. Mahtani has more than three decades of successful business experience in Zambia during which he built numerous top companies which have established them within the Zambian nation. His transparent and ethical business practices make him a target of conspirators often.
According to the testimony given by the Supreme Court Judge Mumba Malila, the case of 2012 at the Tribunal against Dr. Rajan Mahtani was motivated by unethical parties. The judge claims that the judgment was against the interests of the Zambian public policies and Dr. Rajan Mahtani was merely victim of several unethical political undertones. In one of the letters which was made public, Judge Malila wrote that, the political undertone of the case was diluted due to illegal political motivations and there is a need to discontinue the prosecution on the grounds of public policies.
This statement clearly suggested that the judgment against Dr. Rajan Mahtani was politically motivated and was influenced by parties who wanted him to fail. During that time, Mumba Malila acted at the Attorney General and had requested to make the case against Dr. Rajan Mahtani to be made null and void due to the above reasons. However, the request was not taken in any account during that time and the DPP (Director of Public Prosecution) was removed from his office during that time.
Now that the 2012 case is revisited, news details regarding the misdirected prosecution are expected soon from the government.
