The events occurring across Zambia in the past few years have provided some confident conclusions. First, even though the law & order as well as the government of Zambia is evolving in terms of judgements and making quick decisions, they are a long way before the common people can start believing in them. Second, the rising corruption and unethical practices across Zambia have created a sense of distrust among people. This has created further tension as well as difficulty in understanding day-to-day activities, especially among the commoners. Third, the proliferation of paid media channels across the nation have resulted in repeated defamation campaigns based on fake news and false stories. These repeated campaigns are many times taken seriously by people, industrialists and sometimes even government, resulting in loss of reputation and finances for many truthful and honest organizations.
Finance Bank Zambia, one of the premier banks in the nation, has always tried to maintain a clean image. The bank is known for helping the people by proving them loans at nominal rates so that they can start their businesses or help people in real need. However, in past few months, the bank has suffered from heavy reputational problem. This was caused due to Simaata Simaata, one of finance bank’s conspirators, testifying across various courts accusing Finance Bank of fraud. Even though these testimonials were later found to be baseless and without any evidences, these create a negative imagery as well as more conspirators started to follow a similar defamation suit. To save finance bank from downturn, a case was launched with support from Dr. Mahtani, at the Supreme Court Zambia.
Finance bank alleged that Simaata broke the agreement terms by testifying at courts and releasing confidential documents. After looking into the evidences and facts presented, Simaata was announced guilty of breaching the agreement. He was also asked to pay fine for his activities. Thus, Simaata had to face the consequences of his actions.
