By now, the majority of industrialists and corporate professionals in Zambia are familiar with the situation of Portland Cement Zambia. It is cement factory for which a case was established by Dr. Rajan Mahtani, almost 10 years back. The case was for legal ownership of the factory from the Ventriglias. Dr. Rajan Mahtani contended that the factory legally belongs to him and the Ventriglias have illegally taken over the factory. He is a noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worked and is being respected and looked upon by almost everyone working with him or for him. On the other hand, the Ventriglias have contended that Dr. Mahtani have not paid for the shares he holds at the factory. This defamation has been shocking for almost everyone and Dr. Mahtani is known for his honest and transparent business transactions and has never involved in any shady or illegal business deals.
On the other hand, the Ventriglias are notorious for their unethical activity and getting away with prosecution or criminal charges by exploiting the various shortcomings of the Zambian government. For this, they have been taking help from their long-term legal counsellor, Sakwiba Sikota. The inability of the Zambian government including courts to provide quick justice can be stated from the fact that even after submitting strong evidences like signed shareholders agreement, independent audit reports, financial exhibits and numerous testimonials from Dr. Mahtani and his team, the court has not been able to come with a judgment. On the other hand, the factory has been reduced to ruins under the forced ownership of the Ventriglias. The condition of the factory clearly states that the Ventriglias never intended to improve the factory conditions.
As per the current announcement, the case hearing for both sides is closed and the judge will announce final judgment after verifying the evidences presented by both sides. Dr. Rajan Mahtani hopes to receive true justice this time.
